What is the definition of Hell?
A created place by God for the punishment of the wicked (both spiritual beings and
human souls after a physical death). It’s God's place of judgment and is a place absent
of God's goodness. It was initially created for the Devil (Satan) and the angels (demons)
who rebelled. When mankind rebelled against God it also became a place for their eternal souls.
Other names are Gehenna, Tartarus, Hades, Sheol, Place or Realm of the Dead.
Is Hell mentioned in the Bible?
In the oldest biblical manuscripts available, the Hebrew word sheol appears 65 times.
Some translates this Hebrew word sheol, 31 times as "hell," 31 times as "grave," and 3 times as "pit."
In the Old Testament (or Hebrew Bible), the some versions uses the word "hell" 31 times.
In the New Testament, the some translations use the Greek word "hades" in all 10 places it occurs, as "hell."
Some versions also uses the word "hell" or "hellfire" when translating the Greek word "Gehenna" 12 times.
